What tools did the carpenter use to measure and transfer the model of the object he had designed onto the wood?
The tools suitable for transferring the model of the work conceived onto the wood are the ruler, the squares (false square, square with a base), the compasses, the scribers, the templates and the carpenter's hand itself. In fact, the hand was often used as a measuring instrument: for example, the span or the distance between the index finger and the ring finger, or even the distance between the middle finger and the beginning of the palm of the hand were useful for taking and transferring the measurements in an approximate way.
