what to expect from this exhibition
This exhibition has a double title. "Chicken's Brain and Rabbit's Eye" are expressions that draw, as is our custom in choosing titles, from oral tradition. "The chicken has 4 legs and the rabbit hides its eggs" are, instead, phrases uttered by children visiting the Museum in recent years. We have therefore decided to propose a double title to put in communication two visions of the world, temporally not so distant, in which it is, perhaps, evident how necessary this exhibition was.
In the first exhibition room, the adult level presents several questions and answers about chickens and rabbits, which allow you to learn more about these animals, on a journey that is in the past but also well rooted in the present.
The children's level consists of an illustrated band with some interesting information.
In the second room you literally come into contact with the animals of ProSpecieRara (we recommend that the public, out of respect for the animals, speak softly and not bang palms and knuckles against the glass. Thank you for your collaboration!).
In the large chicken coop live the Attinghausen rooster (Appenzell capped) and the hens Elvezia (Swiss), Conchita (Bearded Appenzell) and Punk (Appenzell capped). An external chicken coop (not accessible to the public) allows the animals (on the days the Museum is closed to the public) to scratch around freely, enjoying the sun, the grass and the earth.
Salmì and Tris (a small Swiss tricolour), mother and daughter, live in the large rabbit hutch.
Then there is the space where, after the eggs incubated at the Museum have hatched, the chicks live for a few weeks before being delivered to the ProSpecieRara breeders in the area.
