What is the plane and what was its use?
The plane is a tool used to flatten, level, rough out and smooth wooden surfaces. It is made up of a block of wood, often with a handle on the front, in the centre of which there is a slit that passes through it in which a blade is inserted (whose sharpening angle is generally 25°) facing downwards and blocked by a wedge. The inclination and protrusion of the blade (with respect to the support base of the plane) determined the quantity of wood to be removed during planing.
Planing was always carried out following the grain of the wood and was done by applying a rapid pushing movement.
