The drill is a metal rod that has a ring on the upper part with a handle inserted into it and a sharp helical tip on the lower part. It was used to make deep holes in wood. The tool was operated by holding it with both hands, giving a rotary motion to the rod by means of the handle and applying pressure towards the surface on which the hole was to be made.
