What is a chisel and what is it used for?
The chisel is a tool consisting of a metal bar with a rectangular section, sharp at one end and fixed in a sturdy wooden handle, which is used to work wood by removing material.
The blade of the chisel is straight, unlike the gouge whose blade is concave and curved.
The chisel is often used in conjunction with a wooden hammer (mallet) which is used to strike the wooden handle. One hand holds the handle guiding the cutting direction of the blade which is placed obliquely on the wood to be worked, while the other strikes with the mallet.
