What is forging?
Forging is the operation by which the blacksmith works and shapes metal.
The material to be worked is heated over the fire of the forge at high temperatures until it takes on a bright red color, with shades of white. At that point it is moved, with special tongs or pliers, onto the anvil, where the blacksmith works it by beating it with a hammer. Sometimes an assistant, called a "regulator", assists him in the forging, holding the object firmly on the anvil and alternating with the blacksmith in beating the metal, which is thus worked on both sides.
