The cartwrights remained active until the mid-1900s. Some of them, but even more so their descendants, often later later transitioned into automobile bodywork, becoming coachbuilders, such as the current Verga body shop in Coldrerio, which was built in front of the original workshop that hosted generations of Verga family cartwrights.
