The cádola is a wooden tool designed for carrying various goods on the shoulder. It is composed of a wooden board that acts as a backrest, two uprights and generally two protruding rods that act as supports on which to place the load.
If the protruding rods are positioned at an acute angle to the backrest, the cádola was ideal for transporting irregular and loose materials such as hay, straw, wood, straw (etc.). In cádola of this type, the uprights and protruding rods were often obtained from forked branches.
When the protruding rods are, instead, perpendicular to the backrest and the uprights, thus providing a flat support base, the cádola was suitable for transporting objects with a regular shape, such as containers, cheese wheels, etc.
