When is mowing done?

Mowing is done when the grasses are at their optimum state of ripeness, that is, when the grasses are just starting to show their ears and the legumes are flowering.
Mowing occurs at least two or, if possible, even three (more rarely four) times a year, depending on the weather conditions and the speed of maturation and regrowth of the grasses.
The first cut and harvest is done in May, from which the hay called maggengo takes its name. It is the hay of the best quality and with a high nutrient content.
The second cut occurs in August, from which the hay called agostano results. The third cut, called terzuolo, is done between September and October. The fourth cut, rarer and possible only if particular weather conditions occur, is called quartirolo and is mowed at the beginning of autumn.
