What is the hay scythe and what was its use?
The hay scythe is a tool consisting of a long wooden handle with a grip in the center and one at the end. A large curved blade (crescent-shaped) is fixed to the opposite end of the handle. The hay scythe was used to cut hay for animal feed. The reaper held the hay scythe with both hands and made a semicircular movement with respect to its axis, keeping the blade parallel and as close as possible to the ground, so that the cut grass maintained its maximum length.
