What is the drawbar and what was its purpose?
The drawbar is a long pole, usually made of wood, fixed to the center of the axle of the front wheels of the cart, to which the pairs of draft animals are attached.
The yoke, a wooden instrument worn by draft oxen, was equipped with a specific ring (chiovolo) that allowed it to be firmly fixed to the drawbar by means of an iron or wooden peg (cavicchio).
