To form a couple (pair) of oxen intended for drafting, oxen were selected which had a similar size and similar traction force, which proceeded with the same pace (gait) so that the draft was regular. It was necessary for the couple (pair) formed to always remain together, both when drafting (at work) and during moments of rest (stable).
