What is the bridle and what was it used for?
The bridle (or headstall) is that part of the harness, generally made of leather, that is placed on the horse's head both to support the bit and, by means of the reins, to guide the animal. If the draft animal was guided from the ground by a man, the reins and the bit were not present, considering that a lead rope or a rope was sufficient.
Often the bridle was equipped with blinkers, leather screens that prevent lateral vision and therefore reduce the horse's field of vision, decreasing the probability of it becoming frightened or becoming skittish.
