The horn normally grows regularly until the age of three, after which, for a certain period, anemia of the horn matrix occurs. This causes a decrease in the keratinous covering, resulting in the formation of a deep ring-shaped groove. This phenomenon repeats annually, so each year there will be a ring-shaped groove: the number of grooves present, increased by two, indicates the age of the animal.
