Cowbells are forged in two halves. The halves are hammered to produce a long sound, and then assembled. It takes about 2,000 hammer blows to define the sound, as each hammer blow creates a point of tension that forces the sound waves, which would otherwise be straight and short, to lengthen and create the correct resonance.
