What is the difference between the Dadant hive and the Swiss hive?
The Dadant hive is the most common and most recent type of hive, of American origin. It is accessible from above by removing the covering roof, under which the frames are arranged next to each other. A Dadant hive usually contains 10 frames in the super, and 10 in the nest. Thanks to two side handles, it is possible to transport it from one location to another (migratory beekeeping).
The Swiss-type hive, with a cabinet, is accessible only through a small rear door and to reach the last frame it is necessary to remove all those placed in front. This makes it less practical than the Dadant hive. On the other hand, the Swiss hive has less heat dispersion during the winter.
