How many people and animals were needed to carry out the plowing?
The involvement of people and animals in plowing varied depending on the type of plow, the terrain, and farming practices. Typically, one or more animals such as oxen or horses pulled the plow, while one or two people guided and directed the plow, lifting and turning it when necessary. This work required precision, strength, and skill to ensure effective working of the soil. When plowing was done by animals, a plowman would need about a full day to work one hectare of land, traveling almost 40 kilometers.
