What is a flail and what was it used for?
The flail is an agricultural tool composed of a long wooden handle called “manfanile” to which is tied another stick called “vetta”, a hard wooden element that is struck on the grain. These two parts are joined by a leather binding called “gómbina”. It was used to separate the grain from the stalks: to carry out this operation the team beaters, holding the flail by the handle, forcefully beat the “vetta” on the sheaves with a rotary movement at a regular rhythm.
