What is the threshing floor?

The threshing floor is a large flat area located near the rural house. It can be paved with stone, brick or simply beaten earth. In the threshing floor, numerous agricultural products were dried and in the case of the cereal harvest, it was the space where the threshing once took place. The floor of the threshing floor was prepared before the threshing to ensure a smooth and compact surface that prevented the grain from dispersing. This preparation could be done in various ways: by moistening the soil with water and beating it while it dried until it hardened; by spreading a mixture of animal dung and water on the surface which, when dried, created a solid layer; by covering the floor with a mortar made of lime, sand and gravel.
