In Switzerland, cereals and other dry products such as legumes, nuts and salt were once measured with specific capacity measures called "bushels", rather than being weighed as is done today. These measures varied greatly between regions, and were gradually abandoned with the introduction of the French metric system (meter, gram, liter) starting in 1875.
