What are box traps and what is their use?
Box traps are rectangular, box- or dome-shaped devices designed to catch live animals. They typically consist of a wire cage, often with a wooden floor, with a conical opening facing the inside of the trap and a door for bait or to remove the captured animal. The conical shape of the opening, often with spikes, prevents the animal from escaping once it has entered the trap. Some traps, however, use a door that closes automatically when the animal enters. Trapping is not species-specific, and since the animals are caught alive, there is a choice between releasing them at a remote location or euthanizing them.
