What does the molt consist of?
The moult consists in the replacement of the external cuticle, the skin, of the silkworm larva. The moult allows the larva to increase in weight and size, occurs quickly and requires the change of parts of the organs and the skull. During this period the silkworm is in a state of apparent inertia, still and with the front part raised, and it is more vulnerable (it gets sick and dies more easily).
