What does the chrysalis stage in the life of the silkworm consist of?
The chrysalis stage is when the larva, protected inside the cocoon, transforms into a butterfly. This stage lasts 10 days, during which complex physiological and chemical processes occur, such as the physical transformation into a butterfly and the transformation of the digestive system into a reproductive system (adult silkworm butterflies do not feed, their only purpose is to reproduce and lay eggs).
