When was hemp harvested?
The harvest of hemp for textile production took place between July and August, before the plant went into flower. The weight of the flowers could in fact bend the stem and therefore compromise the length and quality of the textile fibre that was to be produced.
However, some of the female plants were not harvested: they were left in the field until the seeds ripened, which could be saved for sowing the following year or used for the production of oil.
