What is the scotola and what was it used for?
The scotola is a wooden tool consisting of a board, which can have various shapes and decorations, equipped with a handle. The scotola was beaten on the bundles of flax or hemp placed on a support (board, trunk, table, etc.).
The use of the scotola led to a deeper cleaning of the textile fibers, since the smaller pieces of woody part were split and separated from the textile fibers (scotolatura).
