Women devoted themselves to spinning with great dedication especially during the evenings of the winter months. There was a commonly accepted rule that provided for not spinning after midnight and from this came legends in which the devil appeared to spinners who spun after this hour. It was also believed that spinning on Christmas Day brought sad consequences.
