What is the spinning wheel and what was it used for?

The spinning wheel is a wooden device, equipped with a large spoked wheel (swivel), operated by a crank (hand spinning wheel) or a pedal (pedal spinning wheel), and a special spindle equipped with wings in a horizontal position supported by two supports that allow it to rotate on itself. A shuttle is threaded and fixed onto the spindle and the whole is moved in conjunction with the wheel, connected by a transmission cable. The spinning wheel was used to twist the fibres, transform them into thread and distribute them directly on the shuttle on the spindle and allowed these operations to be carried out more quickly than hand spinning with a spindle and distaff.
