What is the shuttle and what was it used for?
The shuttle is a wooden tool containing a small bobbin wound with the weft thread. The shuttle allowed the weft thread to be introduced between the warp threads, which were raised or lowered as desired to obtain the desired fabric. The shuttle was manually moved by the weaver, from right to left and back. Each time the shuttle reached the end of the length of the loom, the weaver then swung the beater (with the reed) to beat and compress the weft thread against the warp.
