What is the shuttle and what was its use?
The shuttle is a wooden tool containing a small shuttle, on which the weft thread is wound. The shuttle allowed the weft thread to be introduced between the warp threads, which were raised or lowered as desired to obtain the desired fabric. The shuttle was manually moved by the weaver, from right to left and back. Each time the shuttle reached the end of the length of the loom, the weaver then swung the striker (with comb) to beat and compress the weft thread against the warp.
