In Ticino, it was mainly the women of the peasant class and the local minor nobility who were interested in indigo-dyed and printed fabrics. In fact, they could not afford expensive and elaborate fabrics (for example brocades and damasks) and therefore they looked for cheaper substitutes, found precisely in fabrics subjected to indigo dyeing and printing.
