Is the rabbit a rodent?
No, the rabbit belongs to the order Lagomorpha. The rabbit differs from rodents in that it has 4 incisors in its upper dental arch, two main ones (called large incisors) and two smaller ones (called small incisors) that are located posterior to the large incisors and that protrude just beyond the gum. Due to the presence of this double row of upper incisors, lagomorphs are classified as duplicidentates, in contrast to rodents (which are simpledentates).
