How can rabbits move their ears?
The long ears, also called antennae, can be moved independently of each other. This allows the rabbit to detect sound sources without having to move its head. The degree of rotation of the ears is over 270° and they are able to perceive and follow two sounds at a time, one for each ear. This, however, leads to a lower hearing sensitivity: in fact, the sound coming from the direction towards which the ear is turned is amplified while sounds coming from another direction are perceived with less intensity. It is important to remember, however, that this disadvantage is largely compensated by a 341° view.
