Dual-purpose breeds are breeds that can be used both for egg production (females) and for fattening (males). This is an integrated and sustainable breeding system in which, however, yields are lower than mono-purpose lines that have a high level of specialization, such as those that only lay (layers) or only fatten (broilers).
