Where did poultry farming stand in relation to other livestock farming sectors between the 19th and 20th centuries?
Although widely practiced, poultry farming was still held in low regard compared to other livestock at the beginning of the twentieth century. In fact, the poultry sector was not included in the federal livestock censuses until 1918, almost half a century after the first survey in which horses, oxen, cows, goats, sheep and pigs were counted but none of the farmyard animals.
