Why do the teeth of saw blades appear irregular when viewed up close?
The teeth of saw blades have one tooth facing the right edge of the blade, the next one facing to the left, the next one to the right (and so on) because this alternation allows the blade not to get stuck in the wood during cutting, resulting in less friction and freeing the cut from sawdust. The technical term that indicates this gapping of the teeth is “allicciatura” or “stradatura”.
The tool that allows you to give the teeth of the blade the correct gapping (allicciatura) is the saw set pliers.
