What is the maul and what was it used for?
The maul consists of an iron or wooden head with a parallelepiped shape fixed to a wooden handle that is used to hit or beat a surface. In the tree-cutting operation, the maul was used to hit the head of the wedges that were inserted into the trunks with the aim of directing the fall of the tree (or to prevent the saw blade from being crushed, to the point of preventing it from sliding, by the weight of the trunk during the cutting operations).
