What were the operations following the felling of the tree?

After being felled, the branches were removed (delimbing) from the tree with a billhook and/or an axe (depending on the size of the branches to be removed).
In the case where the wood was to be used for construction work, it was often in the same place where the tree was felled that the trunks were cut into beams or planks (squaring) by segantini (seasonal woodcutters specialized in this type of operation).
The trunks, planks or beams were then transported downstream by land (by rolling, sliding, or by using animal power or carrying them on the shoulder), by water (using watercourses) or by air (via a skyline cable system).
