What is the Trentino saw and what was it used for?
The Trentino saw, also called a wire saw, is a tool consisting of a rectangular wooden frame in which a blade is fixed in the center, tensioned by means of special screw tensioners, used for cutting boards directly from the log (longitudinal cut of the logs). The transverse rods of the Trentina act as a handle for the two people needed to move the saw.
To use the Trentina, the log had to be raised from the ground by about two meters and therefore it was supported on trestles or the slope of the ground was exploited.
